Dionaea muscipula 'Fangzahn'
Description
Dionaea muscipula 'Fangzahn'The Venus flytrap cultivar Dionaea muscipula 'Fangzahn' originated in Germany in 2009. Its name translates from German as "fang tooth". This name directly refers to the plant's most prominent feature. The cultivar sets itself apart with its exceptionally long marginal lashes. These are the stiff, hair like projections on the edge of each trap. On 'Fangzahn', these lashes can grow up to 1. 6 cm long. They emerge from traps that measure up to 3. 6 cm in
The plant produces tall
The interior flushes red when grown in full light
The plant is characterised by large pitchers similar to those of Sarracenia flava
Take a look at the impressive 'Flavona' photo below on Andrea's Instagram (and give him a follow too
it does look exactly like that despite the complex hybrid parent Sarracenia x willisii
which also influences its small red flowers
it’s both tough and refined
Its potential for spectacular pitchers was not immediately recognised
likely resulting from a natural back-cross between Sarracenia flava var
with a slight undulation in the lid from the influence of Sarracenia leucophylla
The pitchers develop throughout the growing season
The plant shows a strong genetic influence from Sarracenia flava
